Towne Crier Officially Welcomes the 2007 General Assembly
Watermark’s colonial tour guide and appointed City of Annapolis Towne Crier, Squire Frederick Dukesbury Taylor, welcomed both the House of Delegates and the Senate of the 2007 Maryland General Assembly to Annapolis.

As the legislature assembled, Squire Fred’s words rang throughout the State House, “bringing thee most gracious and warm greetings from thy Mayor and thy loyal constituents and servants of this faire City of Anne”.  Senate President, Mike Miller, and Speaker of the House of Delegates, Michael Busch, were present to receive the authentic greeting.  The greeting was so well received that Squire Fred has been asked to return to the State House on January 17th to welcome the new Governor of Maryland, Lt. Governor, Senate President and Speaker of the House to the first joint session of the 2007 Assembly.

Squire Fred has been a colonial tour guide for Watermark for almost 8 years and was officially appointed the Towne Crier for the City of Annapolis in June 2006 by Mayor Moyer.  His appointment allows him access to the City’s official bell – a gift from Annapolis’ sister city, Annapolis Royale in Nova Scotia.  Since his appointment, Squire Fred has appeared at a number of official gatherings including the recent grand opening of the Market House in downtown Annapolis. When he’s not welcoming the legislature, Squire Fred can be found on the streets of Annapolis in 18th Century attire leading visitors, groups and school children on a tour of the city and the U.S. Naval Academy for Watermark the area’s premier tour, charter and cruise company.
