Watermark, the area's premiere tour and charter company in Annapolis, Maryland, and the Annapolis Maritime Museum announce an expanded partnership to include an environmentally based education program for youth and adult grouse called Treasure our Water. The focus of the program includes water conservation, the role of wetlands, and the natural history of the oyster as well as the cultural history of the people who harvested and processed them. This brand new and exciting tour is a combination of land adventure and water exploration aboard one of Watermark's vessels.
The program, created in a joint effort between Watermark and the Museum's Education Department, includes several of Maryland's Core Learning Goals as they apply to Environmental Education. The purpose of the program is to enable students and adults to make decisions and take actions that create and maintain an optimal relationship between themselves and the environment. Preserving and protecting the unique natural resources of the chesapeake Bay and its watershed are also key topics.
Jeff Holland, Executive Director of the Annapolis Maritime Museum explained, "When Captain John Smith explored the Chesapeake Bay 400 years ago, there were enough oysters to filter every drop of water in the chesapeake Bay every three days - all 18 trillion gallons. Today it is a very different story. It is important that people un;understand the importance of this unique resource, the Chesapeake Bay, and Learn what we can do to sustain it."
"Watermark shares the same passion and commitment to the environment, maritime heritage of Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay so it only seems natural that our organizations partnered to create a compelling program for youth and adult groups, " stated Debbie Gosselin, President of Watermark. "Our goal is to offering a hands-on, interactive experience on land and water that will really have a lasting impact on all who experience this program."
Treasure our Water is a 2-hour program with half the time ashore at the Annapolis Maritime Museum and half on a boat examining Bay waters up close. Programs are available to groups of 40 or more students and 30 or more adults at one time. To schedule your tour visit www.watermarkjourney.com or call 410.268.7601 x104.
