(Annapolis, MD) -- Watermark, the premier tour, charter and cruise company of Annapolis, MD is pleased to announce that its own Captain Dean Scarborough has been selected to receive the Roger Murphy National Safety Award by the Passenger Vessel Association. The award recognizes one person nationwide each year for their efforts toward safety within the maritime community.
Captain Scarborough is in his 13th year with Watermark as a vessel Captain, Company Security Officer and Company Training Officer. He pilots Watermark’s diverse fleet, maintains Watermark’s reputation for safety and quality, and helps develop employees into ambassadors for Watermark and the city of Annapolis. Prior to joining Watermark, Captain Scarborough served for 30 years with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police, retiring as a Major in 2002.
“Our mission at Watermark is to consistently provide exceptional service that exceeds the expectations of every guest, by being knowledgeable, professional, and extremely helpful. Captain Scarborough is a leader in delivering on that goal”, says Captain Brandon White, Vessel Operation’s Director for Watermark. White goes on to say that “The Customer Service, Safety and Security training program that Captain Scarborough created and administers is highly effective in developing a well trained, quality staff.”
Safety is paramount at Watermark. In addition to proven training programs, Watermark sets and exceeds rigorous standards for its 11-vessel fleet. Three Watermark vessels, the Catherine Marie, Cabaret II, and Harbor Queen received awards this fall for exemplary compliance from the United States Coast Guard. Each of Watermark’s 11 vessels has received a USCG award for exceptional safety compliance over the past two years, including 6 five-year safety awards.
Captain Scarborough says, “Watermark’s outstanding safety record and commitment to consistently delivering exceptional customer service has given the company a true competitive edge in today’s business environment.” He goes on to say “Watermark started with one vessel and a few very dedicated employees in 1972, and the tradition of excellence is still the focus today for all 200 tour guides, captains, crew and management staff.”
Watermark and Captain Scarborough will be recognized this month at the Passenger Vessel Association’s Annual Conference in San Francisco, January 9–12. The Passenger Vessel Association headquartered in Alexandria, VA focuses on the issues and concerns most relevant to owners and operators of passenger vessels and manufacturers of maritime-related products and services.
About Watermark Tours. Charters. Cruises.
Watermark, originally Chesapeake Marine Tours, began by offering a single sightseeing cruise to St. Michael’s aboard Annapolitan in 1972. The company quickly expanded its scope of operations to include its iconic harbor tours, water taxi service and luxury yacht charters. The company merged in 2004 with Three Century Tours creating Watermark to immerse people in the history, culture and fun of the Annapolis area more completely than any tour or charter company – by land and by water.
