WATERMARK CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH
(Annapolis, MD) – Explore "Another Side of the Story."In honor of Black History Month and in partnership with the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation, Watermark is proud to offer an African-American Heritage tour Saturdays during the month of February.
The award winning African-American Heritage Tour was developed in 2006 with the Kunta Kinte Alex-Haley foundation. Of the partnership, the president of the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley foundation, Judith Cabral said “The Kinte-Haley foundation has been pleased to partner with Watermark in the past. We appreciate the research and energy Watermark puts into interpreting the African-American history of Annapolis.”
The African-American Heritage Tour traces the rich and authentic journey of African Americans in Annapolis and explores their contributions both nationally and internationally. The tour begins at the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley memorial which commemorates the arrival place of Alex Haley's ancestor and main character in Haley's novel The Roots and takes participants on a chronological journey of the City from the period of early slavery to the present day. As the tour winds through the beautiful streets of Maryland’s Historic Capital guests will learn about the significance of the Annapolis Harbor as a slave port and market, the Underground Railroad and finally key local figures. African-Americans have, for over 300 years, comprised a significant portion of the population of our state, our county and our city and Watermark is proud to share their stories with visitors and locals alike.
Watermark President, Debbie Gosselin, points out that “there is a lot of hidden African-American history to be uncovered and experienced in this area. Watermark’s partnership with the Kunta Kinte- Alex Haley Foundation is committed to the history of African Americans in this region, as well as the people they lived with and worked for. The quest will result in authentic and meaningful experience for our guests.”

About Watermark
Watermark, originally Chesapeake Marine Tours, began by offering a single sightseeing cruise to St. Michaels aboard Annapolitan in 1972. The company quickly expanded its scope of operations to include its iconic Annapolis harbor tours, Annapolis water taxi service and luxury yacht charters from Annapolis, Baltimore and Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The company merged in 2004 with Three Century Tours creating Watermark to immerse people in the history, culture and fun of the area more completely than any tour or charter company – by land and water.
