What is the Sailabration?
This year we celebrate the bicentennial of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and the War of 1812 with Maryland’s official Star-Spangled Sailabration 200. This is Baltimore's OpSail for 2012. The three-year statewide commemoration kicks off with this international maritime and air festival taking place June 14-19th in the Baltimore Inner Harbor. The weeklong one time event will feature dozens of tall ships and naval war ships, a Star-Spangled Air Show featuring the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the unveiling of public art and the premiere of a new symphonic work by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Special planned events include fireworks, concerts and a parade of sail. Visitors will learn the story of Maryland’s pivotal role in securing America’s independence and how the state gave our nation two of its most enduring icons – the anthem and the flag.
